Student Support for the Working Professional

The University of Kansas supports our working professional students. You are here to gain credentials, change careers, or gain additional experience while also balancing a full-time job and other responsibilities that a traditional college student doesn't yet have to think about. You need specialized support: online resources, evening or weekend hours, services that can squeeze into your lunch break, and a different kind of career support. Explore the ever-growing list of services that have flexed to meet your unique needs!

Academic Support

  • Academic Support at Edwards

    Use the online or in-person academic support provided by the Edwards Campus. The KU Edwards Campus holds tutoring into the evenings, providing an opportunity to meet with an academic coach, writing consultant, or other tutor after 5pm.

  • Kansas Data Science Consortium

    If you need help with data that you have collected for a research project, schedule a free appointment with the Kansas Data Science Consortium to get help with the analysis.

  • Khan Academy

    Khan Academy is a free platform for at-your-own-pace learning. Type the subject you need help in into the search bar to pull up the lesson you need, whether it's computer programming or preparing to take the MCAT. From full courses, units, and exercises to informative videos, Khan Academy is a great tool to have in your back pocket!

Career Services for the Working Professional

  • Virtual Career Center

    The Virtual Career Center provides most things that our in-person Career Center offers, but entirely online and available at any time of day or night. Explore majors and career paths, take assessments, get AI feedback on your resume and cover letter and practice answering interview questions, and much more!

  • Virtual How-To Guides

    Learn more about resumes, interviewing, and the job search at any time of day with the University Career Center's Virtual How-To Guides.

  • Instant Application and Interview Feedback

    At any time of day or night, use SkillsFirst, an instant-feedback AI tool for your resume, cover letter, and more, and practice answering interview questions with real-time feedback. Log in using KU Single Sign On.

  • Add a Career Advising Appointment to your Lunch Break

    1-on-1 Career Advising is available free to all KU students. Appointments can run 30 minutes or 60, depending on how in-depth you want to go (and how much time you have).

  • Khan Careers

    This basic introductory exploration of various careers is a solid jumping-off point if you are toying with the idea of a career change. If nothing else, it could spark some new ideas!

Library Services

  • Virtual Library Services

    A massive part of KU's library resources are now digital! This means that finding research is easier than ever, and you don't need to make it to the library during business hours to do it. Research from the comfort of your own home at any time of day or night! Use the main search box on the library home page to get started.

  • Document Delivery

    No need to find time to travel to the library and hunt the shelves! Document Delivery service provides digital scans of articles and book chapter from KU-owned physical journals, books and other materials. Learn more about the restrictions and opportunities available through this service on the Document Delivery webpage through the KU Library System.

  • Home Loan Delivery

    If you need an entire physical book or journal, request Home Loan Delivery. This service will package the physical book or journal and mail it to the address listed on file. Note: this service is only available to patrons outside of Douglas County, KS. Return the book through the mail (postage not prepaid) or drop it off at an Edwards Campus or Lawrence Campus library drop box.

  • Retrieve From Shelf

    Using Retrieve from Shelf, the items you need will be made available for pickup at the service desks in Watson Library, Anschutz Library, Art & Architecture Library, Music & Dance Library, or Wheat Law Library. Requestors will receive an Item Available Notice via email when items are ready to be checked out. No need to navigate the shelves yourself!

  • Ask a Librarian

    Although this service is only available until 5pm on weekdays, sometimes sending a quick chat is easier in the middle of the day than making a phone call. You can also send a question and receive the answer in an email. Need more in-depth help? Schedule an appointment for your lunch break!

Financial Opportunities at KU

  • Jayhawk Finances

    Attend a virtual live workshop on topics such as student loan repayment or advanced saving and investing! Meet 1:1 with an experienced financial coach to deep-dive into your unique financial situation as a student--get help adjusting your budget, planning for loan repayment, or investing for retirement. If you email to request an appointment, explain how your financial situation might be different from a traditional student so you can be matched with a coach with the skills to assist you. If you schedule your first intake appointment through Navigate360 Student app, be clear about what you're looking for so the follow up appointment can be prepared accordingly.

  • Jayhawk Finance's Tools & Resources Page

    Jayhawk Finances has put together a repository of their favorite online educational resources and tools, meaning these opportunities are available when you are! Whether your goal is to budget as a student, save and invest for a big purchase or retirement, manage credit and debt, manage student loans, or become generally financially well, this is the resource for you!

  • Financial Aid & Scholarships

    Schedule an appointment with your designated Financial Aid representative to get in-depth explanations of your federal financial aid package. Additionallly, ask if there are additional resources they can recommend.

  • KU Emergency Aid Network

    If you have encountered an unexpected financial emergency not caused by loss of income, consider applying for Emergency Funds through KU's Emergency Aid Network. The page explains what is available and all limitations on the funds.

  • KU Endowment Loans

    Apply for a low-interest loan through KU Endowment, which is a collection of donations made by KU alumni and friends for the purpose of providing low-interest loans to deserving students. Your loan payments are added back into the pot to be used by future students. You must have a KU GPA of at least 2.0 or a transfer GPA of at least a 2.5. See the webpage for more details.

  • Federal Student Aid

    Manage your federal student aid package, from federal loans to work-study and grants. Explore various repayment plans, use their calculators, and stay ahead of your finances post-graduation.

  • Department of Children and Families (DCF)

    Department of Children and Families (DCF) contains a variety of support services, from SNAP Food Assistance and SUN Bucks, Child Care Assistance, utility payment assistance, Vocational Rehabilitation, and much more. Browse this website and reach out to the location nearest you for more information.

  • 211.org

    United Way is a an international nonprofit dedicated to supporting local communities. 211.org is their resource hotline. Call 211 or click on the link above to be connected to local support and referrals to resources unique to your area, from food and utility assistance to employment support.

  • My Resource Connection

    Johnson County has collected a database of helpful organizations and businesses within the county and wider metro area. Click on the Services tab near the top, then select the catagory of what it is you're looking for, and then narrow down your search further by using the Description drop-down menu.

  • Catholic Charities

    While Catholic Charities is religious-based, you do not need to be religious to receive help. It is the largest source of support in North East Kansas with additional locations all across the United States and Puerto Rico, with food pantries, disaster relief, shelters, clothing vouchers, housing and utility assistance, and much more.

While this page is primarily directed toward Edwards Campus students, the resources listed apply to KU students in general. From the KU resource pantry to national databases for quality childcare centers, these resources apply to everyone. Take a look!
